Glacier flower guide is beautiful and easy to use

A beautiful new guidebook makes finding and identifying more than 300 wildflowers and plants in Glacier National Park easier than ever.

“Wildflowers of Glacier National Park and Surrounding Areas,” co-authored by botanists Shannon Fitzpatrick Kimball of Bigfork and Peter Lesica of Missoula, is a friendly field guide and authoritative reference.

Flowers are grouped by color for quick identification, and the text precisely describes key field marks. Additional notes provide information on habitats and plant lore, such as Native American uses. The index, a feature missing in some guidebooks, is comprehensive.

The 256-page, high quality paperback sells for $19.95 and is available at park outlets, bookstores, and by calling Riverbend Publishing toll-free 1-866-787-2363.

Lesica, a professional botanist in Montana for more than 25 years, has written numerous articles and books on Montana plants, including the scholarly work, “The Flora of Glacier National Park.” He is conservation chair of the Montana Native Plant Society. Co-author Kimball is president of the society’s Flathead Chapter and has a master’s degree in botany. She has worked as a consultant in and around the park for many years. Lesica took the book’s photos and Kimball designed it.
